After my usual browsing of Eventbrite during the summer holidays, I managed to nab a couple of the last spots on a Weleda Biodynamic Garden tour in Ilkeston – not too far for us! Beautiful gardens and a wealth of knowledge awaited us! If you’re looking for a unique and educational experience, this garden tour is one you won’t want to miss – especially if you’re interested in natural health and homeopathy.
The tour itself is just over an hour long – just right in my opinion. During our time there, we were introduced to a fascinating array of medicinal plants. We learned how these plants are cultivated and harvested, many of which play a crucial role in homeopathic remedies. The garden is meticulously maintained, showcasing a diverse collection of herbs and plants used in Weleda’s renowned natural products.
The garden is managed by biodynamic farming practices. Biodynamic agriculture is a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming, gardening, food, and nutrition. It goes beyond organic farming by treating the farm as a living organism, focusing on the interrelationship of soil, plants, and animals, and using natural preparations to enhance the vitality of the crops. This method not only ensures that the plants are grown in harmony with the environment but also maximises their healing properties. It’s something that fascinated me on the day and is definitely something I’d like to get more in to myself.
The fabulous guides shared insights into how these biodynamically grown plants are transformed into the natural medicines and skincare products Weleda is famous for. Seeing the care and precision that goes into every process step, from planting the seeds to bottling the final product, was eye-opening.
Not only did we walk away with a deeper appreciation for the power of plants, but we also gained a better understanding of homeopathy and biodynamic farming principles. We’re now more mindful of the natural remedies available to us and the importance of sustainable, organic farming practices.
If you haven’t already guessed, I’d recommend a visit!
