Hi, I’m Sarah , Welcome to My Allotment Journey!
I live in a Derbyshire village where I’ve been growing vegetables and learning as I go since 2014. Taking on an allotment was one of the first things I did when we moved here, and it’s been a part of my life ever since.
When I started, I didn’t have much of an idea what I was doing, but over the years, I’ve built up knowledge and found my own way of doing things.
Life hasn’t always been straightforward. In recent years, I’ve faced illness and loss, and there were times when my allotment became overgrown. But each time, I’ve been able to come back to it, clear the space, and carry on.
The allotment has been more than just a place to grow food – it’s been a space for reflection and healing. I live with PTSD and General Anxiety Disorder, and I’ve found that being outdoors, working with the soil, and watching things grow has been a huge help for my mental health. Alongside my art, it’s given me a way to manage life’s challenges and focus on something positive.
I started this blog to share what I learn along the way. It’s a mix of practical tips, ideas for using produce (from cooking to homemade gifts), and reflections on life at the allotment. My aim is to keep it honest and realistic – growing your own is rewarding, but it’s not always picture-perfect.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll find something here that inspires you to start your own growing journey.
