Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to Digging the Earth!
I live in a lovely Derbyshire village, where I’ve been growing vegetables and connecting with nature since 2014. Taking on an allotment was one of the first things I did when we moved here, and over the years, it has become more than just a space for growing food – it’s been a sanctuary for healing, reflection, and mental well-being.
Life hasn’t always been straightforward. I’ve faced illness, loss, and grief, and at times, my allotment became overgrown and neglected. But each time, I found my way back to it, clearing space, planting new seeds, and rediscovering the joy of watching things grow. Along with my art, gardening has been a powerful way to navigate life’s challenges, providing moments of peace and grounding when I needed them most.
By writing about my life at the allotment, mental health and gardening for beginners. I want to inspire others to experience the many benefits of growing their own food and reconnecting with nature. Digging the Earth started off as a veg-growing diary but now it’s far more than gardening, it’s about resilience, mental well-being, and the transformative power of being in nature as much as possible.
Here’s what I aim to offer:
Practical tips to help you grow your own food, no matter your experience level or age.
Seasonal gardening advice and mindful ways to connect with your space.
Stories and reflections on how nature and gardening support mental health.
Creative ways to use your homegrown produce, from recipes to homemade gifts.
I also plan to share more personal reflections and exclusive content with my subscriber-only community, coming soon – a safe space where I open up about my journey, mental health, and how nature continues to be a source of healing. Please subscribe to that here.
I hope this space inspires you to start your own growing journey, embrace the beauty of nature, and find peace in the process.
Thank you so much for being here!
